SEBTS EdD Grad Leads Training in Africa

Nigeria GATE Worshop

Dear Dr. Coley,

I am very much grateful for the opportunity I had to study in the EdD program and learn from you.  I have been extremely blessed in seeing how gracious you are to your students.  Bless you Dr. Coley.

I think you may be pleased to know that I had an opportunity to travel to Nigeria at the beginning of last month as one of the team members for GATE (Global Associates for Theological Education).  We had close to 80 faculty members from 11 seminaries in Nigeria.  It was an excellent experience and joy.  I am happy I was able to come back to my family just before flights were stopped though.

Blessings on you Dr. Coley especially as you celebrate Easter, God’s expression of love in the midst of the difficult circumstances the world currently finds itself in.

I attached a picture from the Nigeria workshop.

Your brother

Welcome to 2020 Doctoral Students

It’s a joy to introduce Southeastern’s newest EdD Spring 2020 cohort. This picture was was made in early March before social distancing took effect. It was a thrill to teach bright scholars who serve the Kingdom as higher education teachers and administrators, pastors and church staff, and leaders of international ministries.

Praying At The Crossroads Book

Check out the new book: Praying At The Crossroads: Learning From The Prayers Of Old Testament Leaders

Praying at the Crossroads Bible Study Book includes printed content for 12 small group sessions, personal study between sessions, applicable Scripture, “How to Use This Study,” tips for leading a group, and interactive prayer guides.

Prayer is essential to our spiritual growth, yet few of us pray as often or as fervently as we would like. We turn to God only in moments of desperation and crisis. God wants us to turn to Him at every moment of our lives.

The Bible is filled with the prayers of God’s people. Many of the prayers come at critical junctures of faith—at crossroads of decision. Scripture shows us multiple examples of people turning to God when there is nowhere else to turn for peace, comfort, guidance, and strength. Looking to these prayers of biblical leaders, we can learn to pray with new commitment and passion.

In this 12-session Bible study, taught by seminary professors and ministry leaders, we will learn that the ancient prayers of Old Testament saints have much to teach us in our present circumstances, whether at a crossroads or on our daily path. Each week’s study features both group and individual prayer guides so that participants can grow in their ability to pray. Together we will learn to call on God not only at crossroads but also in our daily lives.

Teaching for Change Event at Calvary Day School

August 8, 2018

Spent a day with 75 faculty members at Calvary Day School in Winston-Salem this week as they prepare for beginning another school year.

“What a blessing to have you with us yesterday! I continue to hear great reports from faculty and staff, and they are very thankful to you for pouring into their lives. Thanks for your passion, presentation and professionalism! I have no doubt that our teachers are going to take what they learned into the classroom. I had multiple teachers tell me that they were going to go home last night to let your teaching sink in and then establish a new approach to their teaching responsibilities this year! I appreciate your strong and faithful leadership at Southeastern and in the Body of Christ worldwide. Keep it up!”

Richard Hardee
Head of School

You were sensational! Your transparency and love for the Lord resonated with me. Thanks for visiting and pouring into us the experiences and expertise you have learned throughout your career. I hope to put some of your techniques into practice this year. I will pray that our Lord continue to bless you and use you as you continue sharpening others.”

Sharing & Fellowship Abroad

It was a joy and privilege for me to spend a week (March 2018) teaching a master’s class at Uganda Baptist Seminary in Jinja, Uganda. These pictures tell the story of their enthusiasm for learning new Active Learning Techniques as they teach as adjuncts at their seminary and as pastors/ministers in their local churches.

Teaching For Change

Dr. Coley has enjoyed leading a number Teaching for Change events in August with more coming up in September. These events include Park Avenue Christian in Florida and High Point Christian in North Carolina. This past weekend he led a large group of youth teachers in a time of training at First Baptist Church in Norfolk, Va. Each of these events is unique, but all are based on his new book, Teaching for Change: Transformational Bible Study with Teens (2017). Each session emphasizes biblical truth, student engagement, and the most current findings in mind, brain, and education research. He hopes to see you in one of his sessions September 20-22 at the D6 Conference in Dallas, Texas.
